What the wash bay actually has to handle
Feed trucks rarely arrive clean in one uniform way. The outside of the tanker carries road film, dust and spilled feed that has been baked on by sun and traffic. The inside carries residues of the last batch, and the hoppers, chutes and seals collect material that has absorbed moisture and compacted into a crust. The wheels, chassis and under-run protection add grease and grit. Because the vehicle moves between farms, feed mills and distributors, most operators wash it on a schedule rather than waiting until it looks dirty, which means the equipment has to work fast and predictably in a yard, not a workshop.
Why a fixed unit fits this job better than a portable one
Trucks come to a fixed point anyway: the loading bay, the weighbridge or the gate. A fixed steam cleaning machine installed at that point lets the operator clean the vehicle where it stops, instead of moving a machine and its supply lines around the yard. The Fixed Steam Cleaning Machine PowerDe HW02 is built for this arrangement: it is mains-powered, so runtime is not limited by a battery pack, and it runs on a tap-water inlet, so there is no chemical dosing station to maintain. The machine measures 1,200 mm x 800 mm x 1,200 mm including handles, so it sits beside the wash point without occupying the traffic lane.
Two cleaning modes cover most of the surface work. Dry steam is used where the aim is to lift compacted residue and grease without flooding the surface; wet steam is used where a heavier rinse is needed on panels, chassis and wheels. The unit produces 160° steam at 0.8 MPa, which is what makes bonded road film and feed residue release from a surface with less scrubbing than a cold rinse requires. An 80 L SUS304 tank feeds the system, and a vacuum cleaner is included for the cab interior, so the same stop covers the driving compartment as well as the outside of the tanker.
Layout, water and utilities to check before installation
A fixed installation is mostly a plumbing and electrical decision, not a machine decision. Before selecting the position, confirm the following at the wash point:
- A 220 V supply at the wash point. The HW02 works at 220 V with 6 kW heating power, so the circuit must match that load rather than a general-purpose outlet.
- A tap-water connection. The inlet takes mains water through a 4-point internal-tooth joint, 1/2 inch; a hard hose run and a frost-protected line keep the machine ready between shifts.
- A drain or collection channel where the steam-condensed water and loosened residue fall, so the wash area does not turn into a standing-water patch that refouls the wheels.
- A firm, level surface and enough turning room for the lance and hose, plus a short walk from the machine to the truck face so the operator is not stretching across the vehicle.
On the safety side, the model page lists leakage protection, short-circuit protection, high-temperature protection, high-voltage protection, water-shortage protection and high-voltage explosion protection. For a yard where staff work with wet hands and a water supply, these are the items to match against your own electrical inspection routine, not to treat as a substitute for it.
A repeatable sequence for the truck and its area
Write the routine down and post it at the wash point so the result does not depend on which operator is on shift. A practical order is: knock off loose feed and dry caked material first; work the lance over the panels and chassis in sections; treat hoppers, chutes and seals as a separate step because that is where material packs; finish wheels and under-run protection last so clean sections are not re-contaminated; and do the cab interior with the vacuum at the end. Keeping one written sequence also makes it possible to time a wash, which is how you judge whether the equipment is fast enough for your fleet before buying a second unit.
Where the yard also needs to clean farm or facility surfaces, feed truck cleaning equipment in the same range includes mobile and hand-pushed units, so a fixed machine at the gate and a portable machine for the rest of the site can share the same cleaning method. For the specific layout of your wash point, the engineering and customization services listed on the site cover adapting the configuration to your installation.
